Instance power management

In this document we will be saying about changing “power state” of virtual instance. As your servers are running in cloud this of course is not exact precise term. But virtual instance is turned OFF and ON in a way that is very similar to changing power state in physical server. So, in the rest of this text, we will continue to use the term “power” for sake of simplicity.

Power management options

To access to power management options please log in to Customer Panel and go to the main view of cloud services. On instances list click configuration button of selected instance.

Configuration options menu will be shown. There click “Power” icon.

You will see dialog with information about current power state and power management tools.

Instance power state

„Instance status” field shows current power state of the isntance. It can określa aktualny stan zasilania instancji. It can take one of the followin values:



ON

Instance power is UP and it is running.

OFF

Instance power is DOWN.

Shutted down

Instance power is UP but it seems to not be running, for example its OS was shutted down.

Suspended

Instance was paused due to no funds on billing account.

Creating

Instance is in the creating.

Creating error

Error occurred. Instance cannot be correctly created. Please contact Customer Service.

Error

Error occurred. Instance may not running properly. Please contact Customer Service.



Power managing: Turning power ON

Click “Power ON” button. You will be asked to enter management password of instance. After correct authorization, your instance will start. If your instance is already ON, doing this will do nothing.

Start of the server causes reservation of selected hardware resources (CPU, RAM, bandwidth) so charges for these resources also starts from this moment.

Power managing: Turning power OFF

Click “Power OFF” button. You will be asked to enter management password of instance. After correct authorization, your instance will stop. If your instance is already OFF doing this will do nothing.

Stop of the server frees hardware resources of CPU, RAM and bandwidth in cloud so charges for these resources also stops from this moment.

Power managing: Power restart

Click “Restart” button. You will be asked to enter management password of instance. After correct authorization, your instance will be stopped and then will start again. If your instance is currently OFF, doing this will starts your server.

Start of the server causes reservation of selected hardware resources (CPU, RAM, bandwidth) so charges for these resources also starts from this moment.

OS signals: Shutdown

To send “SHUTDOWN” signal to your server OS please click at “Shutdown” button. After that you will be asked to enter management password. When you confirm operation with password signal will be send to your instance. The way the server react to received signal depends on operating system you use and on it configuration. Typical OS with default configuration will start operating system shutting down.

To send “REBOOT” signal to your server OS please click at “Reboot” button. After that you will be asked to enter management password. When you confirm operation with password signal will be send to your instance. The way the server react to received signal depends on operating system you use and on it configuration. Typical OS with default configuration will start operating system rebooting.
